Out with the old, in with the new! Club Five has come and taken its bow out of the DC nightlife scene and enter Public Bar! The regular DC nightlife and clubbing scene on Connecticut Ave near Dupont Circle adds a sports bar and pub style to the list. Now open to the general public this new nightspot in the midst of several frequented lounges and clubs is ready to make its mark. Lets see how the sports night fits on this block!

Tragedy.
EPIC FAIL! That's just what the M St. corridor needs, another top 40 playing sports bar filled w/ popped collar a$$holes and drunken slores.
I heard this place is a front to sell drugz. Some call the cops. Shut it down.
go to publics bar and talk about how you wished it was still five #h8u
Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to pop a sports bar into the middle of that block?
18th Street Lounge, Sesto Senso and everything else there didn't give them any ideas?
Might as well have just made it an addition to Camelot
This is what they turned five into? well, looks like the shitensification of dupont is now complete. a god damn sports bar. the worst is that five was such a beautifully designed nightclub and when you consider its history as having hosted mango at one point? blech. i hope this thing crashes and burns.
Five was the best club in the city! I can't believe they turned it into this. I hope they fail which I think won't take long since a sports bar in that area definitely will not work well.
what's sad is the amount of money they probably dumped into this to make it some stupid crappy sport like bar.. that will utterly FAIL... and the only way to make use of the space is to turn it back into a nightclub.. of which as stated above.. previously was fine!
dumbasses
great. another sports bar full of fucktards. FIVE was the shit back then..! i'll be sure to steer clear of that bullshit place.
Aaaaaaaaaaawful with a CAPITAL A!!!
Five was one of the best spots in DC. Surely the best system!
We miss that place a lot. This new spot looks Horrible!!
i like the steel chairs, i didnt care much for my ass as it was
horrible investment idea.....good work on defaulting on your first loan repayment fuckers
Wow, that's the cheapest looking makeover I've seen in a really long time.
what a fucking waste of a great venue. RIP five - you will be sorely missed, now more than ever.

Low-rent ESPN zone. I see people from across the street at that one bar, the one with personality, wandering over here to check it out and then wandering right back. However, it'll do business; there's enough people in DC with no sense of history to sustain this place, a place that seems to have apparently no sense of substance.
Woo, looks like this one struck the groove nerve! Five will be missed and I sometimes still look for that club Red scene. So far, no one can reproduce it. So that's a rap sheet of Nations = Down, Red = Down, now Five = Down. Even I was thrown off by the sports bar in the middle of that circle. We'll have to see where this one goes.
Thanks for the candid comments. I see I will have to circle back to this in a few months with a review ;) Party on, party on.
wow, that sucks. another sports bar in DC and in dupont no less? pretty weak. I miss Five. I wonder what was going to happen to it after the owners were forced to sell. Lot of good times and good music in there, that will be no more. fucking DC.
Nothing will replace Five. Tim and Hooman put their heart and soul into that place and It showed. This place is just another run of the mill carbon copy crap ass sports bar that will inevitably fail within a few months ....beacuse there are about 100 bars just like it in DC!!!
I for one will make sure to NEVER spend a dime there.
This place will fail harder than the Bush administration. If they had NOT changed the management at Five, this would NOT have happened.
Booooo Hissssss
Is another sports bar full of douchebags really needed?
*sad day* :-(
This is a sad day.
wow it looks horrible
I miss 5
whats going on with this town? Feels like the extraction of any personality is almost being planned.
So this is a gay bar, right? Guys come here to watch other guys penetrate a tight end on 45" TVs. GHEY.
Wow, nice. Another sports sh*t hole. Hey, I have an idea . . . lets grab all our sh*t-bag, douche-hole, meat-head friends and try to pick up the 5 slutz that will be in attendance. Wait, I have an even better idea, lets turn it back into a successfull, quality Night Club and actually make this space worth something. The owners of this place need to be dragged outside and beat. A freakin sports bar, yeah. Thats just great.
this city sucks.. lets move.
The best club in DC turns into a Green Turtle woot!
Had no idea losing club five would generate this response! So, will 18th Street Lounge become the replacement for now? Or will everyone flock to Ibiza and FUR? Not the same to me since Five was more of a cozy scene than a mega club.
Thanks for sharing all your comments. We make the nightlife what it is and a lot of times it goes unheard. *could do without a lot of "F-bombs" and "douchebags" for self-expression ;)
Party on.
{sniff] [sniff]
Wow, such good times have came crashing down to bittersweet memories. How can anyone think this was a good idea. John B is soooo stupid.
The best times we have had doing gigs was at Five. Tim was one of th best, I even miss Hooman (don't figure ;)
Watch out Virgin Islands, here we come!

Suck. And. Blow.
If half of you had been to Five since 2002 this wouldn't have happened. It can't just sit there empty waiting for your bachelor/ette parties, or when your cousin flies in from Denmark and you decide to roll just ONE MORE TIME. The scene has changed, and so have you. Five hasn't been good in a LONG, LONG time. Its like saying you wish Studio 54 was still open.
Also, why does anyone think its not going to be successful? Lucky Bar has been there for as long as I can remember, and is the only place that doesn't have to pay promoters, and is always packed.
Really bad business move, who ever thought this was successful you really did not do your research as you would have found that Five was one of its kind in DC and fuck the fucking area, if you can post here another place that can take the place of Five then maybe you could shut some folks up but there is not one place that can produce that atmosphere. Fur-Ibiza are nice but that does not do it for one the sound is not the same and neither is the environment, they are totatlly different kinds of scenes. You guys/gals really didnt think about this one, you may get a few people but dont expect herds. As far as Lucky Bar it went one in hand with Five, where do you go to have a good time once the last call has gone out-FIVE!- and sweat it all out. This was a reall stupid decision. So you want to mix drunk sports guys with drunk clubers, yeah good idea, i hope your ready for shutdowns of not just your place but also other places, but maybe that is part of the plan. I dont wish any buisiness bad business but bad fucking choice. Yeah, party on, right...
There really isnt a replacement for Five, Red, and Nation.
Reasons being:
these places where homie, you could wear whateva and get your groove on.
70-80% of the people that went to those places went there for the music so you had a community and/or family, b/c you all had something in common. lots of friendship i have came from those places.
They were in the city near a metro and constant, you didnt have to ask where to go, just ask who was playing that night and 9 times out of 10 you would go no matter who it.
Right now there isnt a constant club/party every weekend and just like DC when there are good parties they are on the same night so business gets split up so it looks like there isnt any scene anymore or its dead.
Just wish someone would get a place like Five again...a place with two different rooms so you can have two different types of music playing. House and top 40 would even be cool....
oh well...i can dream
RIP Five
