TRUST FOR THE NATIONAL MALL HOSTS ANNUAL LUNCHEON,

MORE THAN $1 MILLION RAISED FOR TRUST’S EFFORTS

TO RESTORE THE NATIONAL MALL

TRUST EXCEEDS FUNDRAISING GOAL, TOPS LAST YEAR’S TOTAL

INTERIOR SECRETARY SALAZAR, HONORARY CHAIR MAYOR FENTY,

600 WASHINGTONIANS PLEDGE CONTINUED SUPPORT

Washington, DC The Trust for the National Mall raised more than $1 million to help fund its efforts to rehabilitate and improve the National Mall at its Annual Luncheon today, far exceeding expectations and outpacing last year’s total of $635,000.  Washingtonians from across the region, including leaders from the cultural, philanthropic, political, and business communities attended the second annual event.

“Those who came to the luncheon today are just a small portion of the millions of Americans who are participating in the conversation that the Trust for the National Mall has begun,” said Trust for the National Mall Founding Chairman Chip Akridge.  “We are extraordinarily appreciative of our guests and supporters, and to all Americans who recognize the importance of restoring the National Mall.  Our work has just begun, and I am confident that together we can make the National Mall the greatest park in the world.”

The Trust for the National Mall sold over 600 tickets and signed-up even more sponsors this year than for last year’s inaugural luncheon.  The event’s speakers included Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, National Park Service Regional Director for the National Capital Region, Peggy O’Dell, and Chairman of the Trust for the National Mall Chip Akridge.  Washington DC Mayor Adrian Fenty and his wife Michelle served as the event’s Honorary Co-chairs.  Guests to the event, which took place in a tent on the National Mall, attended a short reception followed by a seated luncheon.

“The Trust for the National Mall has been a key partner of the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior in raising awareness and funding for the rehabilitation of the National Mall,” said Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.  “Today’s extraordinary gathering demonstrates the energy and enthusiasm behind the Trust’s effort and the strength of the partnership that we’ve developed together.  We look forward to continued cooperation with the Trust for the National Mall to restore this historic icon for all Americans.”

The activism, ingenuity, and hard work of the Trust for the National Mall have been a driving force behind the increased awareness of and attention to the problems facing the National Mall,” said National Park Service Regional Director for the National Capital Region, Peggy O’Dell.  “The National Park Service is committed to continuing our partnership and making the Mall a better place for the 25 million visitors who come here annually.”

In the last year, the Trust for the National Mall contributed $1.1 million to the Centennial Challenge Initiative, which was met with federal matching funds to direct $2.2 million in funding for the design and production of desperately needed signs on the National Mall.  These signs, which will be installed later this year, will inform and educate visitors about the Mall’s iconic monuments and memorials and will help to make it easier for guests to navigate the National Mall.  Last month, Secretary Salazar directed $55 million in federal stimulus funding to repairs on the National Mall, including about $30 million to fix the environs around the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool, $18 million to repair a Jefferson Memorial sea wall and $7.3 million to restore the District of Columbia War Memorial.  And just last week, the Trust for the National Mall announced plans for the first ever recycling program on the Mall, together with partners Coca-Cola, the National Park Service, and the National Park Foundation.

The luncheon hosted many politicians, dignitaries, and members of Washington’s diplomatic corps.  For a complete list of the Luncheon’s benefit committees, please see the attached document.

Today’s luncheon will be followed by tomorrow’s “Ball on the Mall” hosted by the Trust for the National Mall’s young professionals group the “L’Enfant Society.”  For more information, please see www.lenfantsociety.org.

The Trust for the National Mall is the authorized non-profit partner of

the National Park Service dedicated to restoring and improving the National Mall, while providing new educational and volunteer opportunities that connect the park’s 25 million annual visitors to the Mall’s rich history.

Pink Blog Ambassador Seal

Boobs and news have caught the attention of The Washington Times with their article, "'Girl power' fights breast cancer." Stephanie Green writes the background on the first ever NewsBabes Bash for Breast Cancer that places perspective on what the event is meant to accomplish. I know plenty of people that have had to deal with breast cancer or know of someone else that is a survivor. My mother and step-mother both are survivors, I have immediate friends that are survivors or lost someone to the cancer, and now I know even more women affected by it. Its clear there is research and numerous programs to find a cure and also help the women, men and their families that must fight to survive the affects of breast cancer. If these group of News Babes can come together for a night in DC to make us aware of ways to help, then we can show up and express our support! "Together, WE can make an IMPACT."

Also in the NewsBabes news, Nightlife PR client and friend, Fezelry Jewelry, will support the event. Christine is furiously working those hands designing a unique jewelry piece to be given to one of the true VIP for the night. You will also have a chance to get your hands on her designs with the raffle! You can Fan Fezelry on Facebook and follow the animated updates of Fezelry on Twitter.

The "Alpha Girls" of DC nightlife take it to tv! We can see Sophie Pyle, Katherine Kennedy and Krista Johnson on the first two episodes of the docu-series show "Blonde Charity Mafia" set to air Tuesday, July 7th, 2009. The ladies have been all over town doing the usual shopping, charity events and preparing for their debut on television. Someone has taken the liberty of creating a fan blog all about Blonde Charity Mafia and keeping fans updated on what's happening with the BCM crew. As of this moment in time, it seems the site has been removed and I wonder what is behind that story? The latest post on the Facebook fan page shares photos on DC 50 (CW) for their involvement with the Guess/Fashion Fights Poverty fashion show event. What will the ladies do next? Well so far, Katherine Kennedy has revived her Twitter acount and we'll see what she has to say about life around town.

From the CW Blog:

"...BLONDE CHARITY MAFIA is a docu-series about the lives of Washington, D.C.’s most influential 20-something Alpha Girls. The BCM runs the D.C. social circuit from charity events to society parties. Their events are the hottest ticket in town, and everyone vies for an invitation – from Congressmen to Hill staffers. Gossip about the BCM is played out and played up on LATENIGHTSHOTS.com (a local, invite-only social website), where minute-by-minute gossip updates about the BCM’s daily (and nightly) exploits are shared for the D.C. public to devour. BLONDE CHARITY MAFIA is from Capital Hills Productions, Inc. with executive producers Patty Ivins (“The Modern Girl’s Guide To Life,” “Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Model Search”) and Julie Pizzi (“The Modern Girl’s Guide To Life,” “Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Model Search”)."

SERVATHON_0117

What a day for volunteering with Servathon 2009 and Greater DC Cares! Trees were planted, parks were cleaned, classrooms painted and people spent time with each other building the communities around DC metro area. The "after party" at The Washington Post was time to reflect and grab a bite to eat from tables full of sandwiches, cookies, chips and even beer from Hooks and Ladder! Thanks to Lauren Conte and William Fettweiss for keeping the teams informed and helping coordinate such a great effort to assist organizations across the metro area for the two day project. A special thanks to Alexandra Simms for the best team member (Nakeva's DC Social Scene For Good) fundraising efforts on short notice! Also, thanks to The Washington Post for sharing the facilities after a day of hard work and fun volunteer efforts.

World Cocktail Week in DC

Posted by Nightlife PR 0 comments

WorldCocktailWk

I had not heard of World Cocktail Week prior to this year. From my previous experience as a bartender I know it was a plus to treat the talent of mixing drinks like an art and do more than just pour from the bottle. Those were fun times and quite a few life lessons worth learning. This year DC will get the libation nation involved with a few notable mixologists and celebrate the entrance of the cocktail in media. The celebration of World Cocktail Week will be presented to DC through The Museum of The American Cocktail with a nightlife event at Proof restaurant! Food, spirits and mixologists on site to bring you an exclusive cocktail experience.

Event: World Cocktail Week - May 6th to May 13th
Date: Monday, May 11, 2009
Time: 7PM
Place: Proof restaurant, Wasington DC
Tickets: $145/person

Read more details on the Proof website.

Becky Lee and Becky's Fund Investing In Hope will be on the scene of the 2009 Virginia Gold Cup this Saturday, May 2nd. She has shown phenomenal fundraising prowess and cause awareness for the Becky's Fund non-profit organization. The goal of this team aims to end domestic violence and offers assistance to the victims as well as other organizations helping the same cause. There have been a number of DC nightlife events that bring out some of the city's top players and amorous socialites to promote awareness and support the fundraising efforts. The $100 Tickets sold out weeks ahead of the event date! I know this event will be a success discussed for months on end and hats off to Becky, the sponsors and supporters for the time and commitment.

SOME - So Others Might Eat

A charity event success thanks to DC nightlife spot Midtown Lounge, ELUND Events and a young and sexy host committee! The non-profit organization So Others Might Eat will receive $2200 from the event plus a matching donation from the Alan Feinstein Foundation. The night was a relaxed atmosphere with a mix of friends and professionals discussing their day, inquiring about the SOME organization, and networking. I had a great time meeting new people and a great conversation on the natural rhythm of art! Media photographer and creative mind, D.C. Hughes, showed up with all three of his cameras and we had a non-competitive photo shoot capturing the event. I mean, how many Nikon cameras can you snap all at once? The good old Canon stood its ground while friends enjoyed posing with smiles and a little vogue. I look forward to doing more with the SOME organization and seeing some of my friends join in the volunteer efforts offered by www.some.org.

Thanks to everyone that attended! Next charity event is Servathon this Saturday, May 2nd. There is still time to add your donations to my team.
