Poetry, philanthropy and fashion intersect on September 10th at Shadow Room. IMPACT Marketing & Events, headed by Eddie Fam, and D.R.E.A.M.Life Inc, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, present Dress for the Movement to raise funds in support of young single mothers. Who brings the poetry to the evening? Bassey Ikpi is hosting the event, a Nigerian born spoken word artist who recently appeared on NAACP Image Awards as part of a tribute to Venus and Serena Williams. Delivering Resources to Empower A Mother’s Life (D.R.E.A.M.Life), Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides mentorship and resources to young, single mothers in the DC Metropolitan Area. Clients are mentored to construct written plans that render fulfilling lives of independence and stability. These visions will be coupled with access to resources to include housing, education and employment. Advisors will work with clients until desired success in all areas in life are achieved.
About Bassey Ikpi
Bassey Ikpi is a spoken word artist, poet, of our time. She has performed live for artists like India Arie, Les Nubians and Luther Vandross and on Russell Simmon’s Def Poetry Jam. She is near completion of her first book collection of poetry, “Blame My Teflon Heart: Poetry, Prose And Post-Its For Boys Who Didn’t Write Back.” Currently Bassey is on a five city tour performing her specialty in, “BasseyWorld Live,” infusing poetry, politics and pop-culture discussions.
